Volume 5: Cross Of Reality (1953)

Twenty-four 1-hour lectures.
(Lecture 7 has a particularly good presentation of speech-thinking.)

The power to make peace or war is divine.
The power to wage war or to work in peace is human.

—October 4, 1953

This course is an introduction to Rosenstock-Huessy’s sociology, and covers the major points broached in Speech and Reality; it also covers some of the material from Soziologie I. Rosenstock-Huessy outlines his method of analyzing human social institutions: to examine on the one hand their traditions and faiths, and on the other their subjective and objective aspects. The series concentrates on the topics of play, war, law, industry, political economy, post-war global economy, the role of economies in peace, the family, speech in society, women in society, and religion.
